Sunderland Pots Five As Bengals Maul The North Stars


The Owen Sound North Stars (6-5) visited the Hamilton Bengals (6-5) Sunday evening in Ontario Series Lacrosse action at the Dave Andreychuk Arena in Hamilton, Ontario. 

The goalie match-up had Gavin Clarke in net for the North Stars facing Lucas Nagy in net for the Bengals. 

Hamilton scored early and often, jumping out to an 8-0 lead before the North Stars would get on the board.  Although the second period had Owen Sound show more life, the Bengals seemingly had all the answers on this day.  Hamilton won 14-5.

Zach Sunderland (5g,1a), Carson Moyer (3g,1a), Shane Halliwell (3g,0a), Jaden Patterson (2g,7a), and Gareth Haigh (0g,7a) led the way for the Bengals. 
For the North Stars, Jordan Caskenette (2g,0a) and Dawson McKenzie (1g,2a) led the way.

To The Game:

The Bengals got rolling early with Zach Sunderland scoring on the power-play off a Carson Moyer pass at 1:44, followed by Shane Halliwell with a blast off a Jaden Patterson pass at 3:23.

Sunderland converted another Jaden Patterson feed at 3:51, followed by Carson Moyer with a low to low shot that found the corner off a Patterson pass at 8:45.  Ryan Haigh added one more goal in transition finishing a Jaden Patterson pass at 12:26.

After one period, Hamilton 5 Owen Sound 0.

Second Period:

Shane Halliwell increased the Bengals lead to open the second period with a low to low shot off a Gareth Haigh pass at 0:56 seconds, followed by a goal from the top of the crease from Zach Sunderland off a Jaden Patterson pass at 2:36.  Carson Moyer then made it 8-0 with a bounced shot off a Dawson Brown feed at 3:58.

Owen Sound finally got on the board with Jordan Caskenette finding the back of the net off a Dawson McKenzie pass at 4:37, but goals from Shane Halliwell and Jaden Patterson put the Bengals back in the drivers seat once again.

The North Stars kept fighting and were rewarded with a pair of goals.  Dawson McKenzie wired a shot to the corner off a Teyatsu Yamada pass at 13:41, followed by Brody Caskenette with a low to low shot off a Dawson McKenzie feed at 15:30.

After two periods, Hamilton 10 Owen Sound 3.

Third Period:

The Bengals continued the barrage in the third period with Carson Moyer converting a Mason Kreller pass at 7:18, followed by Jaden Patterson with an outside blast off a Zach Sunderland feed 0:27 seconds later.   Sunderland himself then buried a Jaden Patterson pass at 9:07.

Ethan Thomson scored for the North Stars off a Jordan McMillen pass at 9:59, followed by Jordan Caskenette with a sidearm snipe off a Dante Mancini feed at 16:44.

Zach Sunderland put an exclamation point on the game with a high to low bounced shot off a Gareth Haigh pass at 17:16.

Final score, Hamilton 14 Owen Sound 5.
