Jaden Patterson has built his lacrosse career around an ability to score, create opportunities for teammates and contribute when games are on the line. His background includes captaining the St. Catharines Junior B Athletics, earning recognition with the Brock Badgers and becoming an important part of the Hamilton Bengals’ offence.

For OSL fans, Patterson’s performances offer plenty to appreciate. Whether finishing a chance himself or finding an open teammate, he has shown different ways to influence a game.

Early Years

A native of Virgil in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Patterson developed his junior box lacrosse career with the St. Catharines Athletics.

He was named captain of the Junior B team in 2023, his second season with the club. Patterson immediately contributed a hat trick in an 8–7 season-opening victory over Cambridge, then followed with two goals and three assists against London.

Coach Alec Tamas praised his leadership by example, highlighting his lacrosse intelligence, loose-ball work and willingness to set effective picks. Those contributions helped explain why Patterson was entrusted with the captaincy.

Climbing The Ladder

Patterson helped lead St. Catharines through a strong 2023 campaign. The Athletics finished third in the Junior B Western Conference, defeated Hamilton in a five-game opening-round series and then swept Elora to advance further into the playoffs.

His development also continued in field lacrosse at Brock University, where he studied kinesiology.

In 2023, Patterson recorded nine goals and 15 assists during the Badgers’ regular season. Brock’s season review highlighted his ability to beat defenders one-on-one and then find open teammates. He earned CUFLA All-Canadian honourable mention recognition and was selected as an attacker on the Baggataway Cup All-Tournament Team.

Making His Mark In The OSL

Patterson has brought that combination of scoring and playmaking to the Hamilton Bengals.

One of his standout performances came in a 9–8 comeback victory over Owen Sound in 2026. Hamilton trailed 7–5 entering the third period and was still down by two late in the game. Patterson scored four times, including the tying goal with just 1:18 remaining, before Carson Moyer supplied the winner with 45 seconds left.

Patterson earned first-star honours as the Bengals turned a difficult road game into a memorable victory. His goals had helped keep Hamilton within reach before his late equalizer completed the comeback.

He also scored twice in Hamilton’s 10–5 victory over Brooklin to close the regular season. Patterson opened the scoring in transition, then added another in the second period as the Bengals answered the Merchants’ pushback.

His production has included big playmaking outings as well. In a 14–5 Hamilton victory over Owen Sound during the previous summer, Patterson collected two goals and seven assists, earning second-star recognition.

University Recognition

Patterson’s accomplishments at Brock continued beyond his 2023 tournament recognition.

In October 2024, he received the Paul Miller Lacrosse Award during a game against McMaster, finishing that contest with four goals. The award honours the memory of a former Badgers lacrosse player.

A year later, Brock named Patterson an Athlete of the Week following a 22-point stretch across three games. That run included five goals and five assists against Laurentian, three goals and three assists against Nipissing, and four goals with two assists in a victory over Toronto.

At that point in the 2025 season, he ranked fourth in CUFLA points and second in assists—another indication of his ability to contribute in both parts of the offence.

Beyond The Floor

Patterson’s approach to lacrosse was evident when he discussed his junior captaincy in 2023. He emphasized team victories over personal statistics while also expressing a desire to challenge himself at the highest level possible.

That outlook fits the contributions his coach identified: making the right play, collecting loose balls and helping create opportunities for others. His story includes the goals and assists, but also the responsibilities that came with leading a team.

Gary Groob’s Take

What stands out about Jaden Patterson is his ability to help an offence in different ways. He can have a big scoring night, but he can also create the opportunities that allow his teammates to finish.

His four-goal performance in Hamilton’s comeback against Owen Sound is a good example of a player staying involved through a difficult game and delivering when his team needed him.

With junior leadership experience and recognition at the university level, Patterson brings a strong background to the Bengals. His contributions are another reason to appreciate the talent competing in the OSL.
