Jake McNabb’s lacrosse journey has taken him from Owen Sound to national championship competition and the National Lacrosse League. Along the way, the right-handed forward has built a résumé that includes a Minto Cup, two college national championships and individual recognition in Ontario Series Lacrosse.
For NorthStars fans, his accomplishments carry a hometown connection. McNabb returned to represent the community where his story began, earning both the OSL Rookie of the Year award and the league scoring title in 2022.
Early Years
An Owen Sound native, McNabb attended The Hill Academy before continuing his education and field lacrosse career at Onondaga Community College.
His junior box lacrosse experience included Owen Sound, the Six Nations Arrows and the St. Catharines Athletics. That pathway exposed him to different programs and included championship success with Six Nations.
Climbing The Ladder
McNabb’s junior résumé combined substantial offensive production with team success. Halifax’s career summary credited him with 183 goals and 159 assists for 342 points across 107 junior appearances, along with three provincial titles and a Minto Cup.
His accomplishments extended to the field at Onondaga. McNabb recorded 51 points in 29 college games and helped the Lazers win consecutive national championships. In the 2017 championship game, he scored the winning goal—an important contribution on the biggest stage of the college’s season.
Those experiences gave him a foundation in both versions of the game before his move into senior and professional lacrosse.
Making His Mark In The OSL
McNabb made a memorable entrance into the OSL with his hometown NorthStars in 2022.
Winning Rookie of the Year was one accomplishment. Adding the league scoring championship in the same season showed just how quickly he became an offensive presence. He also led Owen Sound in scoring during both the regular season and playoffs.
The combination is significant. McNabb arrived with junior championship experience and professional appearances already behind him, then translated that background into production for Owen Sound.
His 2022 season remains a clear example of the experienced talent that can make the OSL such a competitive league.
Professional And Arena Lacrosse Experience
The Colorado Mammoth selected McNabb in the second round, 31st overall, in the 2019 NLL Entry Draft.
He appeared in two games during the shortened 2019–20 season, recording two goals and three assists. His subsequent professional opportunities included contracts with Rochester and Halifax, followed by appearances with the Ottawa Black Bears during the 2025–26 season. The NLL’s statistical record lists four career regular-season games, with two goals and four assists for six points.
McNabb has also produced in the Arena Lacrosse League. With the Brampton Express, one notable performance saw him collect five goals and six assists in a 23–13 victory over the Toronto Monarchs. That 11-point game demonstrated his ability to contribute as both a finisher and a playmaker.
Beyond The Floor
McNabb’s involvement in lacrosse also includes helping younger players develop.
Northern Torch Lacrosse lists him among its coaches, while the National Lacrosse League Players’ Association includes him in its listing for the business. The program offers skill development for players of different ages and experience levels.
That coaching involvement gives McNabb another way to contribute, sharing lessons from junior championships, college competition and professional lacrosse with the next generation.
