Cam Milligan brings an extensive lacrosse background to the Belleville Kodiaks. His career includes NCAA Division I success, professional experience and a Mann Cup championship, along with a commitment to introducing the sport to younger players.
For OSL fans, his offensive creativity was on display during Belleville’s dramatic 2026 regular-season finale against Collingwood. Milligan scored five goals and helped create another as the Kodiaks battled for the league’s final playoff position.
Early Years
Milligan grew up in Peterborough and developed through the city’s minor lacrosse system. His father, coach Jim Milligan, played an important role in his development.
A 2017 NLL prospect feature by Stephen Stamp described the time father and son spent on the Memorial Centre floor, with Cam repeatedly working on his shooting. Stamp also highlighted his passing vision, timing and ability to recognize opportunities that were not immediately obvious to others.
At Holy Cross Secondary School, Milligan helped win three consecutive OFSAA championships from 2011 through 2013. He twice earned championship-game MVP recognition and served as a team captain. His school athletic background also included hockey and volleyball.
Climbing The Ladder
Milligan’s junior box career included the Peterborough Lakers and Delta Islanders, with whom he experienced the 2016 Minto Cup tournament.
He subsequently gained senior experience with the Burnaby Lakers, recording 51 points in 17 regular-season games in 2017 and adding 17 points in seven playoff appearances. The opportunity provided valuable floor time against senior competition ahead of his NLL draft year.
College Success
Milligan’s college career began at Towson before he transferred to the University of Vermont.
He made an immediate impact with the Catamounts in 2015, producing 32 goals and 38 assists for 70 points. His season included an overtime winner against Air Force and a career-high 10-point performance against UMass Lowell.
Milligan followed with 30 goals and 26 assists for 56 points in 2016. He scored the late winning goal against Stony Brook in the America East semifinal, helping Vermont earn its first conference tournament victory and reach its first America East championship game.
As a senior captain in 2017, he led Vermont with 44 points, evenly divided between 22 goals and 22 assists. His college honours included Second Team All-America East and conference All-Tournament Team selections in both 2015 and 2016.
Making His Mark In The OSL
Milligan brought that scoring and playmaking experience to Belleville’s offence in 2026.
His standout performance against Collingwood began with a first-period hat trick as the Kodiaks established a 4–1 lead. When the Cruise rallied in the second, Milligan scored again to interrupt their momentum.
He added his fifth goal in the third period, then set up Cain Brown as Belleville fought back to tie the game. The Kodiaks eventually fell 11–10 in overtime, but Milligan earned first-star honours for his performance.
His goals came from different areas of the floor, including outside shooting and a finish from the side of the net. It was an example of the range of offensive options he brings to a lineup.
Milligan also continued to receive opportunities in MSL. Peterborough’s coverage confirmed that the Lakers called him up from Belleville during the 2026 season, maintaining his connection with his hometown senior program.
Major Series Lacrosse And The Mann Cup
Milligan’s senior career includes a 2018 Mann Cup championship with Peterborough.
The following summer, he led the Cobourg Kodiaks with 52 points, adding another productive season to his résumé. His experience with Peterborough, Cobourg and Burnaby has given him opportunities to compete in both of Canada’s top senior box leagues.
Arena Lacrosse League
Milligan’s Arena Lacrosse League connection began with a significant vote of confidence. The expansion Whitby Steelhawks selected him first overall in the December 2017 draft ahead of their inaugural season.
He became an important part of Whitby’s offence. By March 2020, Milligan had scored 37 goals and collected 54 points, placing him second in the league in goals and tied for fifth in points at that stage of the season.
The ALL later acknowledged his impact when announcing former Steelhawks coach Gavin Prout’s move to Rochester’s coaching staff. The announcement described Milligan as Whitby’s top scorer before his departure for an NLL opportunity, illustrating the league’s role in helping players progress professionally.
His ALL experience has also included the Oshawa Outlaws and Peterborough Timbermen. With Oshawa, he delivered four goals and three assists in a playoff victory in 2023. With Peterborough, another quarter-final performance produced five goals and three assists, demonstrating his ability to contribute as both a finisher and a distributor.
National Lacrosse League
The New England Black Wolves selected Milligan in the sixth round, 54th overall, in the 2017 NLL Entry Draft.
He subsequently made his regular-season debut with the original Rochester Knighthawks franchise during the 2018–19 season, recording a goal and two assists in three appearances. He later joined the new Rochester franchise, scoring a goal and an assist in his lone appearance before the 2019–20 season was interrupted by the pandemic.
Milligan’s most productive NLL season came with Panther City in 2022. In nine games, he recorded 11 goals and 24 assists for 35 points. His assist total highlighted the vision and creativity that had helped him succeed in college and senior lacrosse.
His professional journey also included time in the Toronto Rock organization, moving between the practice and active rosters during the 2023–24 season. Halifax subsequently announced his signing to a one-year contract in October 2024. Those opportunities added further experience to a career that has required persistence while competing for places in talented offensive lineups.
Coaching And Growing The Game
Milligan’s involvement extends beyond his own playing career.
Ontario Lacrosse lists him as its Community Outreach Coordinator. In Peterborough, the minor association has also featured him leading house-league skills and drills sessions, helping introduce young players to the sport while supporting developing coaches.
That work gives him an opportunity to share lessons from his minor, junior, college and professional experiences with the next generation.
Gary Groob’s Take
What stands out about Cam Milligan is the combination of finishing ability and vision. His career includes impressive scoring performances, but his ability to recognize a teammate’s opportunity is just as important.
His five-goal outing against Collingwood showed the impact he can have in a closely contested game. His experience in the ALL and NLL adds to the background he brings to Belleville, while his work with young players gives his contribution to lacrosse another meaningful dimension.
Milligan continues to contribute as a competitor and through his efforts to help others discover the game.
