Rivermen Win With A Spirited Performance
The Edmonton Miners (1-1) faced the Six Nations Rivermen (1-1) in day two action at the President's Cup at the Iroquois Park Sports Centre in Whitby, Ontario.
The goaltending match-up had Cam MacLeod in net for the Miners facing Tye Belanger in net for the Rivermen.
A quick tempo from both teams to start the game had the energy in the arena high. The Tandem of Milligan & Wengreniuk was working well for Edmonton, while David Anderson and Danton Miller was equally as potent for the Rivermen. After one it was tied 2-2.
The second was a tale of two games. Edmonton got rolling early with a pair of goals to take the lead. Six Nations then battled back with three unanswered goals themselves, to grab the lead at the break.
The third had a good rhythm to it to start, but it was the goalies time to shine. Both Cam MacLeod and Tye Belanger were superb in net.
Six Nations increased their lead with blasts from Jordan Goddard, and Danton Miller midway through the period. However, Edmonton fought back when Cam Wengreniuk scored off a Cam Milligan pass. Greg Elijah-Brown then hit with a late marker off a David Anderson pass. Edmonton scored again, but an empty net goal from David Anderson sealed the deal.
Six Nations wins 9-6.
To The Game:
Edmonton got on the board quickly on the power-play when Cam Milligan caught the corner off a Cam Wengreniuk pass at 2:52, but David Anderson answered with a blast off a Tyler Brown pass at 6:02 to tie the game.
The Rivermen took their first lead of the game on the power-play when Danton Miller scored from in close off a David Anderson pass at 10:36, but on a two man advantage Cam Milligan converted a Cam Wengreniuk feed from in close at 11:53.

Second Period:
The Miners got on the board when Jake Bowen converted a Nic Shankland pass in transition at 1:52, followed by Cam Wengreniuk with a high to low bounced shot off a Richard Lachlan pass at 4:17.
The Rivermen got back in the game on the power-play when Danton Miller caught the far corner off a Tyler Brown pass at 12:00, followed by Greg Elijah-Brown blasting a low to low howitzer at 15:59. David Anderson then scored with 0:35 seconds on the clock for Six Nations with a beautiful shot from distance to give them the lead at the break.
After two periods, Six Nations 5 Edmonton 4.
Third Period:
The Rivermen increased their lead when Jordan Goddard blasted a high to low shot off a Zach Herreweyers pass at 9:42, followed by a power-play goal from Danton Miller off a Tyler Brown feed at 11:45.
Edmonton got within two with Cam Wengreniuk scoring off a Cam Milligan pass at 13:27, but Greg Elijah-Brown replied with a goal from in close off a David Anderson pass at 16:29.
The Miners scored late, but an empty net goal from David Anderson sealed their fate.
