Rivermen Erupt for 10-Goal Third, Overpower Fighting Sioux 22-7 at Presidents Cup

The Six Nations Rivermen (1-1) took on the Senior B Fighting Sioux Treaty 4 Territory (0-2) in day two action at the Presidents Cup at the Silent Ice Centre in Edmonton, Alberta. 

The goaltending match-up had Cam Dunkerley in net for the Rivermen facing Alex Kratz in net for the Fighting Sioux. 

The Six Nations Rivermen put together an offensive showcase in Day Two action at the Presidents Cup, defeating the Senior B Fighting Sioux Treaty 4 Territory 22-7 at the Silent Ice Centre in Edmonton. Six Nations jumped out to a 7-3 first-period lead and never looked back, with Jackson Webster leading the attack with four goals while Thunder Hill, David Anderson, Mitch VanEvery and a deep Rivermen offence keeping the pressure on throughout the night.

Holding a 12-6 advantage after two periods, the Rivermen blew the game wide open with a dominant 10-goal third. Six Nations outshot the Fighting Sioux 64-39 overall, while Austin Shanks earned Player of the Game honours for Treaty 4 Territory and Webster took the honours for the Rivermen. The victory moved Six Nations to 1-1 at the tournament, while the Fighting Sioux fell to 0-2.

To The Game:

The Rivermen wasted no time getting on the board, with Jackson Webster firing an outside blast off a Thunder Hill pass just 25 seconds into the game. Alex Kew followed in transition, converting a Dalton Kane feed at 1:12, before Marshall Powless extended the Six Nations lead from in front, finding the far corner off another Hill pass at 2:49.

Jake Boudreau got the Fighting Sioux on the board with a high-to-high blast off an Austin Shanks pass at 3:47, but David Anderson answered with a quick stick from in front off an Anahalihs Doxtator feed at 4:41.

The Fighting Sioux responded with back-to-back goals just 17 seconds apart. Brody Yuzicappi-Brown fired a sidearm laser to the corner off a Boudreau pass at 9:36, followed by Shanks with a bouncer to the far corner off another Boudreau feed at 9:53.

Mitch VanEvery gave the Rivermen some breathing room, finishing in transition while shorthanded off a Brooker Muir pass at 12:48. Braedon Saris added a quick stick from the top of the crease off an Anderson feed at 17:17, before Webster buried his second of the period on the power play, finishing a Saris feed at 19:26.

After one period, Six Nations 7, Fighting Sioux 3.

Shots on goal favored the Rivermen 26-17.

Second Period:

Jackson Webster opened the second-period scoring with back-to-back goals. His third of the game came on a quick stick off a David Anderson pass at 7:08. Webster struck again at 8:20, finishing in transition after Alex Kew found him coming off the bench. Ryan Andrews added another transition marker at 10:42, finding the far corner off a Brooker Muir feed.

Austin Shanks halted the Six Nations run at 15:13, using a series of fakes in transition before finishing off a Jake Boudreau pass. Greg Elijah-Brown answered just over a minute later, scoring from the top of the crease off a Braedon Saris feed at 16:22.

Six Nations then made a change in goal, with Elan Henhawk replacing Cam Dunkerley.

Patrick Thomson welcomed Henhawk to the game at 18:41, jumping across the crease and finding the short side. Jake Boudreau followed just 22 seconds later, burying a bouncer off an Austin Shanks pass at 19:03.

Thunder Hill provided the final highlight of the period, beating the buzzer with a dive from behind the net off a Jackson Webster feed at 19:59.

After two periods, Six Nations 12, Fighting Sioux 6.

Shots on goal favored the Rivermen 18-15.

Third Period:

The Rivermen took complete control of the game in the third period, rattling off 10 goals in the frame.

Mitch VanEvery opened the scoring from the side of the net off a Thunder Hill pass at 2:24, followed just 31 seconds later by Braedon Saris, who finished from in close off a David Anderson feed.

Marshall Powless added a power-play marker with a low-to-low shot off a Greg Elijah-Brown pass at 4:45. Elijah-Brown followed by finding the top corner off a Jackson Webster feed at 8:04, before VanEvery blasted a high-to-low shot to the corner off a Tyler Brown pass just 30 seconds later.

Austin Shanks briefly halted the Rivermen run on the power play, ripping a low-to-high shot off a Jake Boudreau feed at 9:15.

The Fighting Sioux then made a change in goal, replacing Alex Kratz with Teddy Yuzicappi.

Thunder Hill continued the Six Nations onslaught with a power-play marker from in close off a Webster pass at 11:45. David Peterkin followed, converting a Marshall Powless feed at 12:24.

Alex Kew scored from in front after a great pass from Powless at 13:25, before Dalton Kane struck just six seconds later off an Isaac Squire-Hill faceoff win. David Anderson rounded out the scoring with a low-to-low laser off a Thunder Hill pass at 17:13.

Final score, Six Nations 22, Fighting Sioux 7.

Shots on goal favored the Rivermen 20-7 in the third period, for a game total of 64-39 in favor of Six Nations.
