President's Cup Results - Day 5 - Consolation Day
Day 5 at the President's Cup was consolation day at the tournament with two games slated.
Winnipeg Blizzard 6 Ladner Pioneers 9.
A really good start for Winnipeg in this game. Going toe to toe with Ladner. The Blizzard was able to get in front 4-3 after one period. Two from Alex De La Ronde, who once again led the Blizzard with his all around play in the period put the Blizzard in front.
Ladner came out in the second with much more energy. The Pioneers scored three in less than two minutes to change the complexion of the game. Ladner continued to press, controlling the rhythm and tempo of the period. Keegan Bell and Jared Moloci both had a pair each for the Pioneers after two, who led the game 8-4.
While Winnipeg put together a solid third period, the hole from period two was too steep to climb. Colin Poitras and Jared Courchene scored early for the Blizzard, but the veteran defense from Ladner stopped them the rest of the way. Keegan Bell completed his second hat-trick of the tournament with a beauty from in close through the five-hole for Ladner. Ladner wins the game 9-6.
Keegan Bell (3g,0a), Spencer Bromley (1g,4a) and Jared Moloci (2g 0a) led the Pioneers in this game.
For the Blizzard, Colin Poitras (1g,3a), Jared Courchene (2g,1a), and Alex De La Ronde (2g,1a) were the offensive spark plugs.
Players of the Game:
Winnipeg - Alex De La Ronde
Ladner - Matthew Colebrook
Saskatchewan Roadrunners 11 Allegany Arrows 22.
*Of note in this game, Layne Smith donned the pads and was in goal for Allegany.
Notable scratches had Austin Shanks not playing for Saskatchewan, and Chris Cloutier not playing for Allegany.
In the spirit of the game, neither team took things too serious, having fun in their last game of this year's Prezzy. As Jake Elliott eloquently put it, more of a glorified street ball game.
Allegany got out to a 3-0 lead quickly, but Saskatchewan got one back breaking Smith's shutout around the 11:00 mark. The Arrows were up 8-4 at the intermission.
*Of note, It was agreed upon for the rest of the game to have running time.
Allegany continued to score at will potting another seven in the second period. Chase Martin added a few faceoff wins to go with a highlight reel goal (one handed underhand shot). Zach Miller completed his hat-trick as well.
Saskatchewan was still putting forth a strong effort, but a week with an extremely depleted bench was catching up to them. The Arrows took a 15-5 lead to the third period.
In the third period, Cody Laforme added his fourth of the evening, followed by two from Stepan Friedl to keep Saskatchewan competitive.
The Arrows rhymed off another five in a row. But, Lundyn Kups scored a beauty for the Roadrunners, followed by a behind the back goal from Vincent Cree. Add another behind the back beauty from Justin Hoffman and Saskatchewan had eleven in the game.
The Arrows added two late goals from Koleton Marquis and Christian Watts to finish out the game.
Allegany wins 22-11.
