Late Push From The Cruise Falls Just Short as As The North Stars Hang On
The Owen Sound North Stars (4-1) faced the Collingwood Cruise (0-6) in Ontario Series Lacrosse action Friday night at the Eddie Bush Arena in Collingwood, Ontario.
The goaltending match-up had Dante Mancini in net for Owen Sound facing Quinton Greenfield in net for the Cruise.
This was a defensive struggle from the word go. Both Dante Mancini and Quinton Greenfield were spectacular in net not allowing the other team many opportunities.
Owen Sound, led by Rob Harris, Aiden Doig, Dawson Mckenzie, Jake Sposita, and Riley Thompson jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two periods. To Collingwood's credit, they kept battling, scoring three times in the third period (including twice on the power-play). Owen Sound fought off the late Cruise push for the 5-3 victory.
To The Game:
Dawson Mckenzie opened the scoring for the North Stars off a Jordan McMillen feed at 0:24 seconds, followed by an Aiden Doig blast unassisted at 4:51. Riley Thompson added a shorthanded goal off a Teyatsu Yamada pass at 10:19, to build a three goal lead for Owen Sound.
After one period, Owen Sound 3 Collingwood 0.
Second Period:
Rob Harris got the only goal of the second period scoring with a high to low bounced shot off a Mike McLeod pass for the North Stars at 7:53.
Afrer two periods, Owen Sound 4 Collingwood 0.
Third Period:
Braydon Hickey finally got the Cruise on the board with a low to low shot to the corner off a Cole Hanrahan pass at 10:29, but Jake Sposita converted an Aiden Doig feed at 11:34 to restore the four goal lead.
Riley Morgan then scored for Collingwood off an Yvan Bolduc pass at 16:15, followed by Travis Bland with a high to high laser to the corner off a Braydon Hickey pass at 19:23 to bring Collingwood within two, but it was just too little too late.
Final score, Owen Sound 5 Collingwood 3.
