Hickey And Matthews Lead Collingwood To Victory


The Collingwood Cruise (2-9) visited the Owen Sound North Stars (6-5) in Ontario Series Lacrosse action Saturday at the Meaford-St. Vincent Community Centre.

The goaltending match-up had Quinton Greenfield for the Cruise facing Dante Mancini in net for the North Stars. 

In a low scoring affair, the Collingwood Cruise, led by Braydon Hickey (3g,0a), and Colin Matthews (2g,0a), outlasted the Owen Sound North Stars 7-4.

The game was tied after one, but a strong second period put the Cruise in the lead for good.  The North Stars tried to climb back in the game using their special teams, which was responsible for three of their four goals.  However, Collingwood was able to shut down the Stars at full strength to come away with the victory. 

To The Game:

Owen Sound got on the board first when Keagan Mcilmoyle hit rope off a Rob Kloepfer pass at 3:25, but Colin Matthews evened the score with a blast off a Scott Edwards feed at 16:50.

After one period, Collingwood 1 Owen Sound 1.

Second Period:

The Cruise got on a run to start the second period when Braydon Hickey finished an Evan Grey pass at 0:43 seconds, followed by Ben Baker converting a Steve Pelliccione feed at 4:07.

Colin Matthews scored his second of the game with a low to low shot off a Riley Morgan pass at 8:06, followed by Braydon Hickey with a great individual effort unassisted at 10:47.

Owen Sound tried to climb back into the game with a pair of Power-play goals.  The first came from Brody Caskenette off a Dawson McKenzie feed at 15:56, followed by Eoin MacKay with a quick stick off a Rob Kloepfer pass at 16:37.

After two periods, Collingwood 5 Owen Sound 3.

Third Period:

Scott Edwards opened the third period scoring unassisted in transition for the Cruise at 1:55, but was answered by Carter Moran with a power-play marker at 7:53.

Collingwood then added another goal from  Braydon Hickey off a Travis Bland pass at 14:36.

Final score, Collingwood 7 Owen Sound 4.
