Dawson McKenzie's Four Goals Carry North Stars To Victory
The Hamilton Bengals (8-6) visited the Owen Sound North Stars (7-7) Sunday afternoon in Ontario Series Lacrosse action at the Meaford-St. Vincent Community Centre in Meaford, Ontario.
The goaltending match-up had Andrew Kidd in net for Hamilton facing Gavin Clarke in net for the North Stars.
A defensive struggle throughout the entire game highlighted the play of both goalies. While both squads went end to end, only a few were successful in the game. Twice Owen Sound had two goal leads, and twice the Hamilton Bengals came back from that deficit.
With only 1:11 left in the game Dawson McKenzie (4g,0a) was able to beat Andrew Kidd to the stickside for the late game winner. Owen Sound wins 7-6.
To The Game:
The Owen Sound North Stars got on the board first when Jordan Caskenette converted a Riley Thompson feed at 4:18, but Dawson Brown answered in transition finishing a long lead pass from Andrew Kidd at 7:45.
Cole Hanrahan gave Hamilton their first lead of the night with a laser off a Zach Sunderland pass at 10:30, but Dawson McKenzie tied the game with a low to low blast off an Ethan Thomson feed at 11:32.
After one period, Owen Sound 2 Hamilton 1.
Second Period:
The second period scoring started with Aiden Doig converting a Carter Moran pass at 2:44, followed by Dawson McKenzie with a laser off a Jack Fitzpatrick pass at 4:47.
Carson Moyer brought the Bengals closer with a great move from in front off a Peyton Wallace pass at 12:17, followed by Peyton Wallace with a great individual effort unassisted at 18:30.
Michael Blaymires regained the North Stars lead with just 0:47 seconds left in the period with a sidearm snipe.
After two periods, Owen Sound 5 Hamilton 4.
Third Period:
Dawson McKenzie increased the Owen Sound lead with a blast off a Riley Thompson feed on the power-play at 2:53, but Cole Hanrahan brought the game within one with a blast from the side of the net off a Tye Argent pass at 10:42.
Hamilton tied the game with a low to low laser from Tye Argent off a Gareth Haigh pass at 16:29, but with just 1:11 to play, Dawson McKenzie scored off an Andrew Kelly feed to put Owen Sound in the lead late.
Final score, Owen Sound 7 Hamilton 6.
