Churchill Nets Four As James Gang Gets Win In OT
The Collingwood Cruise (0-4) and the Ennismore James Gang (1-3) met in Ontario Series Lacrosse action at the Robert E.
Young Recreation Centre in Ennismore, Ontario Saturday evening.
The goaltending match-up had Quinton Greenfield in net for the Cruise facing Cole George in net for the James Gang.
The James Gang got moving quickly, jumping out to a 3-0 lead before Collingwood got on the board. However, not to be outdone, the Cruise went on a four goal run in 2:08 to end the first period ahead 5-4.
In almost as wild of a second period, Ennismore would get the better of it scoring five times to take a 9-8 lead into the third. Adam Churchill (4g,2a) for Ennismore, and Cole Hanrahan (3g,2a) for Collingwood led their respective teams in the offensive department.
Defense became the order of the day in the third. Cole Hanrahan tied the game for the Cruise early on in the period, and then with 3:37 remaining Braydon Hickey gave the Cruise the lead. Mason Tardiff tied the game on the power-play to send it to overtime.
In the extra period, Adam Churchill scored the game winning goal just 0:24 seconds in, giving the James Gang their first win of the season.
To The Game:
Michael Blaymires got Ennismore on the board with an unassisted goal at 2:28, followed by Mason Tardiff on the power-play off a Blaymires pass at 6:42. Adam Churchill blasted a Jake Stroscher feed from in close at 10:43 to increase the lead to 3-0.
Brayden Hickey got Collingwood rolling with a low to low shot off a Matt Brenzel pass at 12:16, but Bjorn Dielmann regained the James gang's three goal lead off an Adam Churchill feed at 15:15.
The Cruise finally got on a run to end the period. Yvon Bolduc finished a Cole Hanrahan pass with a sidearm snipe at 15:33, followed by Chase Forsythe with a high to low bouncer off a Braydon Hickey pass at 16:24.
Hickey tied the game 0:21 seconds later, followed by Riley Morgan with a screenshot that beat Cole George to the glove side at 17:41.
After one period, Collingwood 5 Ennismore 4.
Second Period:
Adam Churchill's second of the game tied it up for Ennismore just 0:25 seconds into the period, followed by a power-play goal from Tommy Collins off a Churchill feed at 5:39.
Cole Hanrahan tied the game once again for the Cruise unassisted at 6:20, but a transition goal from Nate Allan on a long lead pass from Cole George gave the James Gang the lead once again at 8:03.
Hanrahan again evened the game on a Colin Matthews pass at 10:05, followed by a Jordan Roberts power-play goal off a turnover 0:27 seconds later.
Michael Blaymires got his second of the game on the power-play off a Mason Tardiff pass at 16:24, followed by Churchill's third of the night off a Mason Tardiff pass at 19:02.
After two periods, Ennismore 9 Collingwood 8.
Third Period:
Cole Hanrahan's third of the game tied it once again off a Spencer Andrew's pass shorthanded at 5:39, followed by Braydon Hickey on a turnover unassisted at 16:23 to take the late lead.
Mason Tardiff tied the game on the power-play 0:26 seconds later off a Michael Blaymires feed, sending the game to overtime.
After regulation, Ennismore 10 Collingwood 10.
Overtime:
After a bit of extra curricular activities by Chase Forsythe and Jayden Sample 0:14 seconds in, Adam Churchill ended the game with a blast off a loose ball 0:10 seconds later.
Final score, Ennismore 11 Collingwood 10.
Shots on goal favored the James Gang 56-49.
