Caskenette The Hero As North Stars Edge Cruise In OT

The Collingwood Cruise (1-9) visited the Owen Sound North Stars (6-3) Friday night in Ontario Series Lacrosse action at the Meaford-St. Vincent Community Centre in Meaford, Ontario.

The goaltending match-up had Quinton Greenfield in net for Collingwood facing Tanner Brown in net for the North Stars. 

In a defensive struggle that went back and forth all game, the Collingwood Cruise and the Owen Sound North Stars matched each other's energy and prowess all evening. 

The North Stars took a two goal lead in the third period, but two goals in 0:10 seconds by Collingwood midway through the period put the game back in a deadlock.  The goaltending was superb down the stretch, not allowing another goal in regulation. 

In overtime, after almost 8:00 of end to end action, Jordan Caskenette was able to beat Quinton Greenfield for the game winner.  Owen Sound prevails 6-5.

To The Game:

Teyatsu Yamada got Owen Sound going quickly scoring off a Jordan McMillen pass just 0:30 seconds into the game, followed by Keagan Mcilmoyle blasting a Riley Thomson pass at 3:13 for the 2-0 lead.

The Collingwood squad got on the board with Braydon Hickey finishing a Zach Gignac feed from the outside at 6:11.

After one period, Owen Sound 2 Collingwood 1.

Second Period:

The Cruise tied the game when Harrison Brooks finished a Ben Baker pass with a sidearm snipe at 2:18, but an Eoin MacKay goal in transition gave the North Stars the lead once again. 

Braydon Hickey tied the game once again for Collingwood when he quick sticked a Graham Bergsma pass at 9:36, but a late goal from Riley Thompson finishing a Brody Caskenette pass with just 0:42 seconds left in the period gave the North Stars the lead heading to the third period. 

After two periods, Owen Sound 4 Collingwood 3.

Third Period:

Jack Fitzpatrick gave Owen Sound a two goal lead midway through the third period off a Riley Thompson feed at 8:55, seemingly grabbing control of this see-saw battle.

Collingwood stormed back with two goals in 0:10 seconds to tie the game once more.  Tye Burke finessed a Braydon Hickey pass at 9:39, followed by Aidan Saint off the following faceoff with the tying goal at 9:49.

Down the stretch both goalies were superb, not allowing another goal in regulation. 

After regulation, Owen Sound 5 Collingwood 5.

Overtime:

In a period were the teams had opportunities both even strengthed and on the power-play, neither team was able to find the back of the net.  Jordan Caskenette finally scored with a low to low laser off a Brody Caskenette pass at 7:43 to give Owen Sound the victory. 

Final score, Owen Sound 6 Collingwood 5.
