Carrigan And MacLeod Pot Four Each In Convincing Merchants Victory
The Collingwood Cruise (0-3) had a quick turn around after a heartbreaking last minute loss to Owen Sound the previous night, facing the Brooklin Merchants (2-1) in their home opener.
The goaltending match-up had Jackson Hainer in net for the Cruise facing Lucas Coote in net for Brooklin.
For two periods the Merchants had their way is this game, building a convincing 12-0 lead. Led by Zac Carrigan and Will MacLeod, both scoring four, Brooklin coasted to a 13-4 victory over the Collingwood Cruise. Graham Bergsma led the way for Collingwood with a goal, and a pair of helpers in the loss.
To The Game:
Will MacLeod got the game rolling for Brooklin with a pair of power-play markers. The first was off a sharp pass from Parker Pipher at 7:32, followed by a blast off an Eddie Renaud feed at 12:32. Renaud then added a power-play goal of his own with an outside shot off a Zac Carrigan pass at 14:41 for a 3-0 lead.
Zac Carrigan added a goal with a beautiful move inside off a Scott Reed pass at 17:22, followed by Darren Elliott converting a Carrigan pass at 18:17.
After one period, Brooklin 5 Collingwood 0.
Second Period:
Brooklin wasted no time in the second with Zac Carrigan wiring a low to low shot at 2:20, followed by Jayson Crawford in transition finishing a Ryan McCrory feed at 5:39.
Zac Carrigan's third of the game came off a Parker Pipher pass at 8:37, followed by Darren Elliott's second of the game from the top of the crease off a Carrigan pass at 9:26. Zac Carrigan's fourth of the day put Brooklin in double digits off a Ryan McCrory pass just 0:15 seconds later.
Will MacLeod added his third of the game on the power-play off a Devon Pipher feed at 15:27, followed by Pipher himself picking the corner on a sidearm snipe at 16:09.
After two periods, Brooklin 12 Collingwood 0.
Third Period:
Collingwood took over at this point with four unanswered goals. Graham Bergsma got them rolling with an outside shot off a Steven Portelli pass at 4:14, followed by Colin Matthews quick sticking a Bergsma pass at 5:40.
Steven Portelli added a shorthanded goal off a Scott Edwards pass at 15:12, followed by a power-play talley from Spencer Andrew's off a Graham Bergsma pass at 16:43.
Will MacLeod added one more for Brooklin late in the period to seal the deal.
Final score, Brooklin 13 Collingwood 4.
