Brooklin Hangs On In A Nail-biting Finish


The Allegany Arrows (0-1) faced the Brooklin Merchants (1-0) on day one of the President's Cup at the Iroquois Park Sports Centre in Whitby, Ontario. 

The goaltending match-up had Chase Martin of the Arrows facing Deacan Knott for the Merchants. 

A very evenly played first period saw end to end action, with the score being tied 2-2.  However, the second was a different story.  Brooklin ramped the tempo up, putting Allegany in tough situations all frame.  A five goal run from the Merchants changed the complexion of the game.  Led by Alex Marinier, Brooklin jumped out to a 7-2 lead taking control of the game.  After two, Brooklin led 9-4.

The third period saw the Allegany offense come to life.  Down 12-6, the Arrows rhymed off four consecutive goals to bring this to a two goal game.  

The final minutes were end to end heart-stopping action, but the Merchants were able to hang on for the 12-10 victory.


To The Game:

The Merchants got on the board to start the game when Liam Osborne scored in transition off a long lead pass from Deacan Knott at 5:05, but Kobe Whitcomb answered for the Arrows with a low to low shot off a Chris Cloutier feed at 9:48.

The Arrows took their first lead when Chase Fraser scored off a Kobe Whitcomb pass at 11:54, but Alex Marinier answered for Brooklin with a blast off an Alex Marinier feed at 13:19.

After one period, Brooklin 2 Allegany 2.

Second Period:

Brooklin got on the board first when Alex Marinier slid a low to low shot under Chase Martin off a Parker Pipher feed at 0:20 seconds, followed by Will MacLeod with a sidearm snipe off a Darren Elliott pass at 1:39.

The Merchants kept coming with Matt Duncan scoring in transition off a Scott Reed feed just 0:06 seconds later, followed by a beautiful fake then shot from Jacob Hickey who went coast to coast unassisted at 8:18.  Then, On a two man advantage the Merchants continued to barrage with Liam Osborne picking the corner off a Devon Pipher pass at 10:27.

Christian Watts got one back for Allegany on a blast from the top of the crease off an Amos Whitcomb pass at 11:40, but a laser from Alex Marinier off an Alexis Simard pass at 11:46 stopped the Arrows momentum. 

Chris Cloutier fired a rope that beat Deacan Knott off a Kobe Whitcomb pass at 12:34, but again Brooklin responded when Alex Marinier finished a Will MacLeod pass at 14:01.

After two periods, Brooklin 9 Allegany 4.

Third Period:

Brooklin continued the pressure on a delayed penalty with Alex Marinier scoring off a Zac Carrigan feed at 0:33 seconds.

Allegany replaced Chase Martin with Gowah Abrams.

Allegany got on the board with Chris Cloutier blasting a Zach Miller pass in at 1:17.  

A dive from behind the net from Will MacLeod off a Parker Pipher pass 0:30 seconds later, followed by Liam Osborne continuing his hot night for the Merchants with a great individual effort off a Robert Morgan feed at 6:27. 

Allegany finally got their offense in gear.  Chase Fraser got one back with a beauty from in front off an Amos Whitcomb pass at 7:25, followed by a low to low shot from Zach Miller converting an Whitcomb pass at 8:54.

Allegany kept pressing on the power-play.  Chase Fraser finished a Chris Cloutier feed from in close at 10:08, followed by a perfect pass from Josh Becker to Chase Fraser at 11:28.  Chris Cloutier added another power-play goal to bring the game within two at 11:36.

The last half of the period was end to end heart-stopping action with both goalies playing stellar.  Brooklin was able to hold on to the two goal victory. 

Final score, Brooklin 12 Allegany 10.
