Brooklin Advances To The Gold Medal Game


The Six Nations Rivermen (3-2) faced the Brooklin Merchants (5-0) with a berth in the President's Cup Gold medal game on the line.

The goaltending match-up had Tye Belanger in net for the Rivermen facing Deacan Knott in net for Brooklin. 

Brooklin got rolling quickly in the game jumping out to a 3-0 lead early on.  Six Nations got into a bit of penalty trouble with a pair of penalties that went as power-play markers, but fought back with a power-play goal of their own.  The Merchants were pushing the tempo the entire period, leading 4-1 at the intermission. 

Six Nations came out in the second with more energy.  The Rivermen scored five in the first half of the period to overcome the early deficit tying the game 6-6.  David Anderson with three,  and Zach Herreweyers with two led the way. 

Brooklin got back in the lead with a great individual effort from Parker Pipher scoring while falling down off a Zac Carrigan pass at 18:30 to grab a 7-6 lead heading to the third period. 

The third period started with a torrid pace, but both goalies stood tall.  However, Liam Osborne broke the scoreless period with a great effort to get in front to fire a low to low shot 6:00 into the period.

The Rivermen tightened the game again with a Chris Courtney blast, but three from the Merchants opened up a four goal margin late in the period.

With just under five minutes remaining, Six Nations asked for a mask measurement of Deacan Knott's mask. It was found to be illegal equipment.   Knott got a two minute illegal equipment penalty.  

The Rivermen scored on the ensuing power-play to bring them within three, but an empty net goal from Jacob Hickey sealed the deal.  Brooklin advances to the gold medal game with a 12-8 victory.


To The Game:

Brooklin got on the board first with Will MacLeod scoring from the side of the net off an Alex Marinier pass at 1:44, followed by a blast from Marinier off a Parker Pipher feed at 2:27.  The Merchants continued the early barrage with a power-play goal on a dive from behind the net from Parker Pipher off a Zac Carrigan pass at 9:49.

Six Nations got on the board with Thunder Hill scoring from in close off a Danton Miller pass at 10:55, but Jacob Hickey answered immediately with a low to low blast off a Liam Osborne pass on the power-play at 12:31.

After one period, Brooklin 4 Six Nations 1.

Second Period:

Zach Herreweyers opened the second period scoring quickly with a pair of markers for Six Nations.  The first was a goal from in close off a Jacob Crans pass at 0:24 seconds, followed by a great individual effort off a David Anderson feed at 1:31.

The Merchants got back on track with Will MacLeod converting a Zac Carrigan feed at 2:38, followed by Alexis Simard finishing a Devon Pipher pass at 2:47.

David Anderson got the next two for the Rivermen.  The first was an absolute howitzer from the outside off a Zach Herreweyers pass on the power-play at 4:15, followed by a nice finish from in close off a Thunder Hill feed at 7:54.

David Anderson tied the game with a high to low shot from the outside off a Jacob Crans pass at 10:51, but Brooklin got back in the lead with a great individual effort from Parker Pipher scoring while falling down off a Zac Carrigan pass at 18:30.

After two periods, Brooklin 7 Six Nations 6.

Third Period:

Liam Osborne opened the third period scoring with a great effort to get in front, scoring off a Parker Pipher pass at 6:09, but the Rivermen replied with Blake Gibson scoring on a low laser to the corner off a Jacob Crans pass at 8:33.

Liam Osborne replied for the Merchants with another goal from in close off a Kobe Handsor pass at 9:01, followed by Alex Marinier off a Devon Pipher feed at 11:04.  Then Alex Marinier fired a laser from the outside that found the corner off a Will MacLeod pass at 15:08.

The Rivermen got one back on the power-play when Greg Elijah-Brown scored off a David Anderson feed at 15:58, but an empty net from Jacob Hickey at 18:20 sealed the deal.

Final score, Brooklin 12 Six Nations 8.
