A Strong Third Period Brings The Cruise To Victory
The Ennismore James Gang (2-13) visited the Collingwood Cruise (3-11) in Ontario Series Lacrosse action Saturday evening at the Eddie Bush Arena in Collingwood, Ontario.
The goaltending match-up had Riley Finn in net for the James Gang facing Quinton Greenfield in net for the Cruise.
The Collingwood Cruise got off to a good start leading 5-1 in the first period on the strength of Graham Bergsma with a pair of goals.
The James Gang made a game of it in the second period, pulling within one goal making the most of power-plays.
The third period saw Collingwood take charge once again led by Graham Bergsma scoring twice as Collingwood held off the Ennismore James Gang 12-8 for the victory.
To The Game:
Graham Bergsma opened the scoring with an outside blast off a Scott Edwards pass at 1:10, followed by Edwards himself converting a Bergsma pass from in close at 9:09.
Bergsma got his second of the game with another howitzer from the outside off a Braydon Hickey swing pass at 9:29, but Caleb French was able to answer for Ennismore to get back in the game at 15:10.
Jesse Ashkewe got Collingwood cruising again with a sidearm snipe off a Braydon Hickey pass 0:15 seconds later, followed by Colton McNutt with a low to low shot off a Chase Forsythe pass at 16:10.
Isaac Newland got the James Gang closer with a late goal off an Andrew Lagana pass at 18:27.
After one period, Collingwood 5 Ennismore 2.
Second Period:
Travis Bland increased Collingwood's lead with a shorthanded marker off a Colin Matthews pass in transition at 6:32.
The James Gang then came to life scoring three unanswered goals.
Isaac Newland led the James Gang with a pair of goals. His second of the game was off a nice feed from Andrew Lagana at 11:34, followed by a bounced shot off a Riley Caldwell pass on the power-play at 17:48. Caleb French brought Ennismore within one with an unassisted tally at 19:34.
After two periods, Collingwood 6 Ennismore 5.
Third Period:
The Cruise came out of the intermission on a mission, getting on a four goal run. Graham Bergsma gave Collingwood a bit of breathing room with an unassisted blast to open the period. Braydon Hickey then added an in close goal off a Tye Burke feed at 1:49, followed by Bergsma's fourth of the game again unassisted off a broken play at 4:37. Tye Burke then added his second goal of the period off a Chase Forsythe feed at 7:24 to break the game wide open.
Daniel Clarke got Ennismore back in the game with a blast off a Riley Caldwell pass at 8:08.
Tye Burke replied with a power-play goal off a Braydon Hickey pass at 11:34, followed by Riley Morgan adding another tally for the Cruise off a Josh Franken pass at 16:54.
Ennismore made a final push with Caleb French scoring twice. The first was off the immediate faceoff 0:09 seconds later, followed by a blast off a Boyd Diclemente pass at 18:51.
Final score, Collingwood 12 Ennismore 8.
