A Low Scoring Affair Has The Rivermen Come Out On Top

Ontario Series Lacrosse would like to thank the Ontario Lacrosse Association, and the Lacrosse festival for allowing them to use the Iroquois Park  Sports Complex for their championship final playoff round.

The Six Nations Rivermen traveled east to face the Brooklin Merchants in game two of their best of five Ontario Series Lacrosse finals.

The Merchants won game one with a total team performance.  Eddie Renaud (4g,2a), Trent Boyd (2g,3a), Zac Carrigan (2g,3a) and Christian Watts (2g,3a) led the way for Brooklin.

The goaltending match-up had Drew Hutchison in net for the Rivermen facing Deacan Knott in net for the Merchants.

After plenty of scoring in game one, this game was quite differently played.  Both teams clamped down on defense, only allowing eleven goals total.  Drew Hutchison and Deacan Knott were stellar in their respective nets.

Jordan Goddard (2g,1a) led the way for the Rivermen, with Zach Herrewyers scoring the game winner with just 3:03 remaining.   For Brooklin Christian Watts (2g,1a) was the offensive leader.    The Rivermen came away with the 6-5 victory to tie the series 1-1.

To The Game:

Sam LeClair wasted no time getting the Rivermen on the board scoring just 0:21 seconds into the game off a Zane Dalpe pass, but Darren Elliott answered almost as quickly converting a Parker Pipher pass at 1:08.

Jordan Goddard scored a pair of goals for Six Nations to increase the lead to 3-1.  The first was off a Zane Dalpe pass from in close at 3:37, followed by a shorthanded talley off an Oakley Thomas feed at 11:21.

Zac Carrigan got one back for the Merchants with a low to low shot off a Christian Watts pass at 12:27, followed by Watts himself adding a goal off a Carrigan pass at 18:59.

After one period, Six Nations 3 Brooklin 3.

Second Period:

Ross Hill gave the Rivermen the lead once again with a blast off a Jordan Goddard pass at 9:29, followed by by a power-play marker by Wake:Riat Bowhunter with a howitzer from the outside off a Sam LeClair pass at 14:34.

Eddie Renaud got one back for the Merchants late in the period finishing a Ciaron Costello pass at 17:23.

After two periods, Six Nations 5 Brooklin 4.

Third Period:

After the majority of the period of end to end action with no scoring, Zach Herrewyers finally solved Deacan Knott in Brooklin's net.  Herrewyers caught the corner on a sidearm snipe off a Greg Elijah-Brown pass at 16:57.

Christian Watts closed the gap to one goal off a Parker Pipher pass at 18:15, but that was as close as they would get.

Final score, Six Nations 6 Brooklin 5.
