Special Teams Again Play Big Role In North Stars Victory

The Brooklin Merchants (0-1) opened their 25th anniversary season  with a trip to the Meaford St. Vincent Community Centre to face the Owen Sound North Stars (2-1) Sunday afternoon.

The goaltending match-up had Deacan Knott in net for Brooklin facing Gavin Clarke in net for the North Stars.

The Owen Sound North Stars are quickly showing the league that their special teams are not to be fooled with.  Of the ten goals scored by the North Stars, five were power-play goals, with a shorthanded goal for good measure in the 10-6 victory.  Gavin Clarke is also showing he is going to be a real force in the Owen Sound net.

Parker Pipher led the way for the Merchants with three goals, but a short bench of only twelve runners would catch up to Brooklin as the game went on.

To The Game:

Owen Sound got things rolling quickly with Jordan McMillen scoring just 0:24 seconds in, wiring a Jake McNabb pass past Deacan Knott, but Eddie Renaud evened the score with a high to low blast off a Devon Pipher feed at 1:49.

Parker Pipher gave Brooklin the lead on the power-play with a great individual effort off a Devon Pipher pass at 5:37, but Jordan McMillen's second of the game would even the score once again.

Owen Sound kept the pressure up with three more unanswered goals.  Jake McNabb picked the corner shorthanded off a Dawson Mckenzie pass at 9:29.  Rob Harris then converted a Colin Mawdsley pass, followed by Mawdsley himself converting a Dawson Mckenzie pass.

After one period, Owen Sound 5 Brooklin 2.

Second Period:

Parker Pipher finally got Brooklin back on the board finishing an Eddie Renaud pass at 1:07, but Jake McNabb continued the North Stars pressure scoring off a Dawson Mckenzie pass at 1:48 on the power-play.

Darren Elliott stormed back for the Merchants scoring off an Adam Perroni pass just 0:13 seconds later, but Dawson Mckenzie answered off a Jordan Caskenette pass at 5:17.

Owen Sound finished the period strong once again.  Jake McNabb and Jordan McMillen both scored again on the power-play heading to the intermission with a five goal lead.

After two periods, Owen Sound 9 Brooklin 4.

Third Period:

Again Parker Pipher gave Brooklin a quick start on the power-play converting an Eddie Renaud pass at 0:30 seconds, but Jordan Caskenette answered on the power-play off a Dawson Mckenzie pass at 10:01.
