Heartbreak For North Stars As Rivermen Get Last Second Win

The Six Nations Rivermen traveled to Owen Sound to face the North Stars at the Bayshore Community Centre in game two of their best of five Ontario Series Lacrosse playoff series. 

The Rivermen romped over Owen Sound in game one, beating them 15-3.  Zane Delpe (3g,1a), Zach Herrewyers (2g,2a) and Sam LeClair (3g,2a) led the offense.  For the North Stars to get back in the series they will need help from everyone.

The goaltending match-up had Drew Hutchison in net for Six Nations facing Ethan Woods in net for the North Stars. 

Owen Sound clearly played their best game of the 2024 season, controlling the game for large sections.  Led by Jake McNabb (2g,2a) and Jordan McMillen (2g,1a) the North Stars took a 7-4 lead with just over half a period to go.

The Rivermen got to work in the second half of the third period.  Scoring four unanswered goals, including the game winner with just 0:01 second left in the game, the Rivermen snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.   The Rivermen win 8-7.

To The Game:

Jordan McMillen got Owen Sound rolling early converting a Gordie Power pass at 0:51 seconds, but Zach Herrewyers answered for the Rivermen with a blast from in close off an Oakley Thomas pass at 4:03.

Jordan Durston gave Six Nations the lead on a great individual effort unassisted at 7:55, but Jake McNabb tied the game once again off a Brody Caskenette feed at 8:14 on the power-play. 

Drew Hutchison added a power-play goal unassisted for the Rivermen at 18:17, but Gordie Power responded for the North Stars on a turnover scoring unassisted 0:24 seconds later. 

After one period, Six Nations 3 Owen Sound 3.

Shots on goal favored the Rivermen 18-13.

Second Period:

Zane Delpe gave Six Nations the lead off a Zach Herrewyers pass at 3:02, but three unanswered power-play goals put the North Stars in the driver's seat.

Jordan McMillen got his second of the game off a Brody Caskenette pass at 5:57, followed by Jordan Caskenette finishing Brody Caskenette's pass at 6:40.  Brody Caskenette then added one himself off a Jake McNabb pass to grab a two goal lead at 15:51.

After two periods, Owen Sound 6 Six Nations 4.

Shots on goal favored the North Stars 13-11.

Third Period:

Jake McNabb made it a three goal lead with a low to low blast off a Jordan Caskenette pass at 3:14, but the Rivermen would put the rest of the period in another gear.

Ross Hill got Six Nations on track with a transition goal off a Drew Hutchison long lead pass at 6:19, followed by Jordan Goddard finishing a Hill pass at 9:23.

Zach Herrewyers tied the game with a laser off a Wake:Riat Bowhunter pass on the power-play at 17:51, and with just 0:01 second remaining Kaden Brennan won the game for the Rivermen with a shot to the shortside off a Kevin Owen Hill feed.

Final score, Six Nations 8 Owen Sound 7.

Shots on goal favored the Rivermen 16-15, for a game total of 45-41 in favor of Six Nations.
