Thunder Hill Has A Monster Game As Rivermen Cruise Past Collingwood


The Collingwood Cruise (0-1) opened their Inagural season at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in Hagersville, Ontario facing the Six Nations Rivermen (2-0). 

The goaltending match-up had Jackson Hainer in net for Collingwood facing Dusty Hill in net for the Rivermen. 

In a game where combined there were nine power-play goals and four shorthanded goals, the Six Nations Rivermen beat the Cruise 16-7.  Thunder Hill exploded for seven goals, while Tyler Brown and Anahalihs Doxtator each had a pair in the win.  Collingwood spread the wealth with seven different scorers in the game.  

While Collingwood took an early lead, a five goal run at the end of the first staked Six Nations to a lead they wouldn't relinquish the rest of the way.  Dusty Hill was strong in the Rivermen net, never letting the Cruise's offense get momentum.

To The Game:

Colin Matthews gave Collingwood the early lead converting a Steven Portelli pass on the power-play at 1:59, but Tyler Brown was in a perfect position to tie the game with a shorthanded blast at 3:42.

The Cruise got moving with Scott Edwards finding the back of the net also on the power-play at 5:18, followed by Matt Brenzel with a shorthanded marker on a broken play unassisted at 9:28, for a 3-1 Cruise lead.

Six Nations finally got on track putting together a five goal run to end the period.  Tyler Brown got his second of the game on the power-play at 11:52, followed by by Anahalihs Doxtator with a sidearm snipe to the far corner off a Ross Hill feed at 13:50.  

Jordan Vandamme gave Six Nations the lead once again in transition at 16:10, followed by Ross Hill with an outside howitzer off an Anahalihs Doxtator pass 0:38 seconds later.  Doxtator then converted a Brooker Muir pass at 17:24 for a three goal advantage. 

After one, Six Nations 6 Collingwood 3.

Second Period:

The second period opened with Steven Portelli getting the Cruise back in the game with a low to low shot off a Dylan Gillespie pass at 11:58.

The Rivermen put together another run of three goals to really grab control of the game.   Ty Logan beat Jackson Hainer with a low blast off a Tyler Brown pass at 12:40 on the power-play, followed by Thunder Hill converting a Logan feed also on the power-play 0:48 seconds later.  Hill then finished a Tyler Brown pass from in close for a 9-4 lead.  

Dylan Gillespie got a late goal for Collingwood off a Riley Morgan pass at 18:56.

After two periods, Six Nations 9 Collingwood 5.

Third Period:

Nick Nigro got Collingwood back on the board with a great individual effort at 1:36, but Thunder Hill continued his big night scoring the next two goals for the Rivermen.   The first was off a Blake McDonald pass, followed by an unassisted tally shorthanded at 5:05.  McDonald then added one of his own at 7:00.

Aidan Saint scored shorthanded on a broken play for the Cruise at 8:57, but three quick power-play goals from Thunder Hill put an exclamation point on the game.

Final score, Six Nations 16 Collingwood 7.
