The Merchants Outlast The James Gang With Strong Third Period
The Brooklin Merchants (3-1) visited the Ennismore James Gang (0-3) at the Robert E. Young Recreation Centre.
Brooklin has been hot lately on the strength of Zac Carrigan, Eddie Renaud, Will MacLeod, Devon & Parker Pipher, as well Darren Elliott.
Ennismore is a young team that is growing together game by game. Led by captain Tyler Grandel, this group is gelling with every outing.
The goaltending match-up had Ryan Schuetzkowski in net for Brooklin facing Riley Finn in net for the James Gang.
The Ennismore James Gang played their most complete game of this young season, just falling short of a major upset over the Brooklin Merchants. Led by Adam Churchill (3g,2a), and Bryce Dennis (2g,1a), Ennismore was deadlocked with Brooklin after two periods.
In the third period, Brooklin was able to put it in another gear, scoring three times. The Merchants game winner came from Cole Tucker (3g;3a), followed by a pair of insurance markers from Zac Carrigan (4g,3a) for the 12-10 victory.
To The Game:
Brooklin got on the board first when Liam Osbourne converted a long lead pass from Ryan Schuetzkowski in transition at 2:22, followed by Cole Tucker blasting an Adam Perroni pass at 3:49 for a 2-0 Merchants lead.
Tyler Grandel got one back for Ennismore scoring from in close off an Adam Churchill feed at 4:34, but a Will MacLeod power-play goal at 5:48 gave Brooklin the two lead again.
Adam Churchill then brought the James Gang within one once more with a low to low shot to the corner off a Mason Tardiff pass at 9:54, but again the Merchants answered when Darren Elliott converted a Zac Carrigan pass from the top of the crease at 11:14.
Churchill found the back of the net with two more to tie the game. The first was off a beautiful feed from Bryce Dennis at 11:54, followed by a howitzer from the outside off a Caleb French pass at 14:29.
Zac Carrigan gave Brooklin the lead once again with a pair of power-play goals. The first was a sidearm snipe off a Devon Pipher pass at 16:24, followed by a low to low shot off an Eddie Renaud pass at 19:44.
After one period, Brooklin 6 Ennismore 4.
Second Period:
The James Gang came out in the second period on a mission scoring twice in the first 1:04 to tie the game again. Mason Tardiff opened the scoring at 0:48 seconds off a Boyd Diclemente pass, followed by Bryce Dennis blasting a Cole Begley pass at 1:04.
Adam Perroni gave the Merchants the lead again off a Darren Elliott pass at 1:29, followed by Cole Tucker finishing a Parker Pipher pass at 2:27.
Bryce Dennis got the James Gang within one on the power-play converting an Aaron Bradshaw pass at 2:59, followed by Bradshaw himself quick sticking a Tommy Collins pass at 12:35 to tie the game again in the see-saw affair.
Will MacLeod gave Brooklin the lead once more finding twine off a Zac Carrigan pass on the power-play at 18:12, but Tommy Collins tied it again with just 0:03 seconds left in the period off an Adam Churchill pass.
After two periods, Brooklin 9 Ennismore 9.
Third Period:
In a much more defensive period, Cole Tucker finally broke the deadlock for the Merchants wiring a shot past Riley Finn off a Will MacLeod pass at 11:51, followed by Zac Carrigan's third of the game off a Will MacLeod pass at 14:50. Carrigan added some insurance with a blast off a Devon Pipher pass at 15:42.
Things got Chippy as the game concluded with Bryce Dennis and Luke Maloney squaring off for a tilt at 18:15.
Nate Allan got one more for Ennismore with 0:39 seconds remaining, but it was too little too late.
Final score, Brooklin 12 Ennismore 10.
Shots on goal favored Brooklin 67-49.
