Seven Goals In The Second Period Propel Rivermen To Victory

 

The Hamilton Bengals (1-2) visited the Six Nations Rivermen (3-1) at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in Hagersville, Ontario, Sunday evening in Ontario Series Lacrosse action. 

Both teams were coming off tough losses to the Brooklin Merchants last week, and were looking to get back on track.  

Hamilton was looking for Gareth Haigh, Tye Argent, Dawson Brown, and Josh Gilray to lead their offense.  Six Nations was relying on Thunder Hill, Anahalihs Doxtator, Jordan Goddard, and Tyler Brown for their output.

The goaltending match-up had Jackson Brown in net for the Bengals facing Elan Henhawk in net for the Rivermen.

Thunder Hill got the Rivermen in control with a pair of goals in the first period.  The Bengals fought to get within one by the intermission.

Special teams played a role for Six Nations in the second with two power-play goals as well as a shorthanded goal.  Although Hamilton battled back again, seven goals by the Rivermen in the period broke the game open.

While Hamilton took advantage of a couple of power-plays in the third period, the Rivermen's defense held strong.   Six Nations wins convincingly 12-7.

To The Game:

Thunder Hill opened the scoring for the Rivermen converting a Ty Logan pass at 9:15, followed by Jordan Goddard wiring a rope to the corner off a Rodd Squire feed at 11:33.  Thunder Hill added his second of the game off a Chris Courtney pass at 15:28 for a 3-0 lead.

Hamilton finally solved Henhawk with a power-play goal from Gareth Haigh off a Jordan Gillis pass at 17:09, followed by Dawson Brown blasting a Kyle Pedwell pass 0:33 seconds later. 

After one period, Six Nations 3 Hamilton 2.

Second Period:

Dante Miller opened the second period scoring quickly on the power-play scoring off a Tyler Brown pass just 0:29 seconds in, followed by Jordan Goddard adding to the lead with a quick stick off a Thunder Hill pass at 1:24.  Ty Logan then added a shorthanded goal in transition off a long lead pass from Elan Henhawk at 4:22.

Hamilton got back on the board with a pair of goals.  Gareth Haigh fired an outside shot off a Tye Argent pass at 5:58, followed by Jack Jasinski scoring from in close 0:37 seconds later. 

The Rivermen blew the game open scoring four of the next five goals to take a 10-5 lead.  

A power-play goal by Jordan Goddard stopped the Bengals mini-run at 14:38, followed by a great individual effort from Zach Herrewyers off a Blake McDonald pass just 0:09 seconds later. 

Gareth Haigh got one back for Hamilton, but late goals from Davin Bomberry and Thunder Hill had Six Nations up by five heading to the third period. 

After two periods, Six Nations 10 Hamilton 5.

Third Period:

Davin Bomberry opened the third period scoring with his second of the game off a Zane Dalpe pass at 3:45.

The Bengals then scored two power-play goals.  The first was a low to low shot from Cheyton King off a Jack Jasinski feed at 11:09, followed by Kyle Pedwell with a high to low shot off a Tye Argent pass at 18:19.

Brooker Muir added an empty net goal with just 0:03 seconds left picking up a loose ball and scoring unassisted. 

Final score, Six Nations 12 Hamilton 7.
