President's Cup Results - Day One
The President's Cup began Sunday morning at the Iroquois Park Sports Centre in Whitby, Ontario with four round robin games.
Ladner Pioneers 11 Winnipeg Blizzard 5.
Led by Erik Forsselius (4g,2a), the Pioneers got out to a 5-0 lead, never looking back. Winnipeg put together a strong third period led by Alexander De La Ronde (3g 2a), but it wasn't enough to dig out of the hole they put themselves in early.
Edmonton Miners 33 Saskatchewan Roadrunners 4.
In the most Lopsided game of the day the Edmonton Miners defeated the Saskatchewan Roadrunners 33-4. The Roadrunners only had 10 players in the game and played hard for as long as they could, but the Miners attack was just too much.
For the Miners, Cam Wengreniuk (6g,1a), and Jake Bowen (6g,3a) led the way. Other players of note were Tyler Sonnichsen (4g,1a), Colin Berglof (4g,0a), and Kyle Playsted (3g,9a).
Six Nations Rivermen 9 Snake Island Muskies 12.
A game that showcased special teams throughout. Snake Island was able to capitalize continously on the power-play as well as adding a couple of shorthanded goals. Skkyler Thomas (4g,0a), Joey Spallina (2g,3a), Ryan Lanchbury (2g,1a), and Fred Hartley (2g,0a) led the way for the Muskies.
For Six Nations David Anderson led the way with six goals, with Thunder Hill, Greg Elijah-Brown, and Davin Bomberry added singles.
Snake Island wins 12-9.
Allegany Arrows 10 Brooklin Merchants 12.
A very evenly played first period saw end to end action, with the score being tied 2-2. However, the second was a different story. Brooklin ramped the tempo up, putting Allegany in tough situations all frame. A five goal run from the Merchants changed the complexion of the game. Led by Alex Marinier, Brooklin jumped out to a 7-2 lead taking control of the game. After two, Brooklin led 9-4.
The third period saw the Allegany offense come to life. Down 12-6, the Arrows rhymed off four consecutive goals to bring this to a two goal game.
The final minutes were end to end heart-stopping action, but the Merchants were able to hang on for the 12-10 victory.
