President's Cup Results - Day 4 - Quarter-Finals

It was Quarter-Final day at the President's Cup, with four games scheduled.

Ladner Pioneers 6  Six Nations Rivermen 11

Ladner got off to a quick start jumping out 2-0, but four unanswered goals had the Rivermen in the lead at the break.  Special teams played a big role in the frame with the teams going a combined 3 for 3 (Ladner 1 for 1, Rivermen 2 for 2) with the man advantage.

More special teams magic from Six Nations in the second period.  The Rivermen scored four power-play goals, also adding a shorthanded marker in the frame to take a 9-3 lead. After going scoreless for 31:34, Ladner finally ended their scoring drought with a shorthanded goal late in the period.

The Pioneers started getting their offense in gear with three of goals in the first half of the third period to try and get back in the game.

The game was already nasty with a parade to the penalty box all game, and the last half of the third period was no exception.  Both teams were taking penalties throughout, allowing special teams to settle this affair.

The Six Nations Rivermen advance to the semi-finals with an 11-6 victory over the Ladner Pioneers.

Players of the Game:

Ladner - Coady Adamson
Six Nations  - Aiden Fearn

Edmonton Miners 14  Allegany Arrows 13.

This without a doubt was the game of the tournament to this point!

Edmonton saved their best game of the tournament for this game.   Through the first period Edmonton was able to build a 5-2 lead.
Allegany got rolling in the second period scoring six times.  Led by Chase Fraser and Chris Cloutier, the Arrows were able to get within one goal heading into the third period.

In the third period, Chase Fraser started the Arrows off with back to back goals.  The first tied the game with a beautiful behind the back shot, followed by another outside screenshot to grab the lead.  Chris Cloutier got back in scoring mode with back to back goals as well to increase the Arrows lead to three.

The Miners kept pressing with Dean Fairall, and Richard Lachlan scoring to bring the game within one.  Edmonton then tied the game when Marcus Needham scored at the halfway point of the period, setting this up for a ten minute game to see who would advance.

The Miners kept the momentum with Jake Bowen scoring to regain the lead, but the Arrows responded with Chris Cloutier scoring from in close.  Again the Miners went ahead with Dean Fairall scoring with just three minutes left.  The last three minutes was heart-stopping, end to end action.

Edmonton held on for a 14-13 win to advance to the semi-finals.

Players of the Game:

Edmonton  - Dean Fairall
Allegany  - Chase Fraser

Winnipeg Blizzard 3  Snake Island Muskies 20

A spirited game from the Blizzard saw them go up 1-0 on a goal from Colin Poitras.  Snake Island then got rolling with an eight goal run throughout the period to take a commanding lead in the period and game.

Winnipeg kept battling, but the more experienced Muskies took charge of the game.

Ryan Lanchbury (5g 4a), Stephen Keogh (2g,5a), Joey Spallina 3g,1a), and Landon Sinfield (3g,3a) led the way as Snake Island was just too powerful for the Winnipeg squad.

Winnipeg showed, as they did all tournament, a lot of heart throughout the game.  Colin Poitras (2g,1a) led the offense in a tough assignment against the savvy Muskies.

Snake Island advances to the semi-finals with a 20-3 victory.

Players of the Game:

Winnipeg  - Colin Poitras

Saskatchewan Roadrunners 5  Brooklin Merchants 19.

Again Saskatchewan came into the game with an extremely short bench.   With only ten runners they played admirably, but not enough to compete with the Merchants.  Although the Roadrunners hung in for a while, Brooklin took over midway through the first period, never looking back.

Will MacLeod (3g,5a) led the way for Brooklin, with Braedon Saris (2g,5a), Darren Elliott (3g,2a), and Alex Marinier (3g,2a) also having big nights for the Merchants.

Saskatchewan's offense was led by Austin Shanks (2g,1a), Lundyn Kups (2g, 0a), and Vincent Cree (1g,1a).

Brooklin advances to the semi-final with a 19-5 victory.
