MacLeod Scores Eight As Brooklin Holds On In A Wild One With Collingwood
The Collingwood Cruise (2-10) traveled east to face the Brooklin Merchants (11-2) in Ontario Series Lacrosse action at the Iroquois Park Sports Centre in Whitby, Ontario.
The goaltending match-up had Quinton Greenfield in net for Collingwood facing Lucas Coote in net for the Merchants.
Brooklin came into the game on a mission. Up 5-0 not five minutes into the game, then were sending a message to the league, with playoffs right around the corner. Collingwood kept battling, but the Merchants had all the answers. Will MacLeod led the way with four first period goals.
The game got wilder as we moved on, with Collingwood scoring eight goals in the second period to get back in the game. Chase Forsythe scored three for the Cruise in the period, while Graham Bergsma had a goal and fourth helpers.
The third period was almost as wild as the Cruise got within two goals before Liam Osborne and Will MacLeod were able to give the Merchants some breathing room. Brooklin held on for a 19-12 win. Will MacLeod finished the game with an astounding eight goals on the day.
To The Game:
Devon Pipher opened the scoring for Brooklin with a blast from the side of the net off an Alex Marinier pass at 1:17, followed by Will MacLeod with an in close marker just 0:20 seconds later.
Cole Tucker added to the total with a low to low shot off an Alex Marinier pass at 3:55, followed by MacLeod with his second of the period off a Devon Pipher feed at 4:21. Marinier continued the early barrage with a sidearm snipe off a Zac Carrigan pass 0:24 seconds later.
Collingwood finally got on the board with Riley Morgan scoring unassisted in transition at 5:35, but Zac Carrigan continued the blitz with a low to low blast off a Devon Pipher pass at 5:56.
Colton McNutt got the Cruise back on track with a nice goal off a Josh Franklin pass at 8:39, but Darren Elliott answered with a nice move inside off a Liam Osborne pass at 9:54.
Will MacLeod added his third and fourth of the period with a sidearm snipe off a Zac Carrigan pass at 11:41, followed by an outside laser off a Zac Carrigan pass at 19:57.

Second Period:
Scott Edwards opened the scoring for the Cruise off a Lucas Renzetti feed from in close at 2:18, but Will MacLeod's fifth of the game kept the momentum with Brooklin off a Devon Pipher pass 0:25 seconds later.
Jesse Ashkewe again tried to get Collingwood back in the game with an unassisted tally at 3:38, followed by Chase Forsythe with a power-play marker off a Graham Bergsma pass at 6:34.
Braedon Saris scored on an outside shot for Brooklin off a Jacob Hickey pass at 7:57, but Bergsma answered with an unassisted tally himself at 9:26 for Collingwood. Ben Baker and Devon Pipher then traded goals for each club.
Brooklin seemed to get back on track breifly with Jacob Hickey and Will MacLeod scoring, but the Cruise had other ideas in this wild period.
Collingwood put together a final run heading to the intermission, scoring three times in 0:35 seconds. Chase Forsythe converted a Graham Bergsma pass with a quick stick at 17:14, followed by Zach Gignac scoring from in front off a rebound at 17:31. Forsythe then added his third of the period with an outside laser off a Zach Gignac feed at 17:49.
After two periods, Brooklin 14 Collingwood 10.
Third Period:
Chase Forsythe continued his hot night for the Cruise scoring two quick goals to start the third period. The first was on the power-play off a Graham Bergsma pass at 3:57, followed by a high to high laser to the top corner off an Ethan Marwick pass at 6:21.
Liam Osborne scored back to back for Brooklin. First finishing a Parker Pipher pass at 11:10, followed by a blast off a Zac Carrigan pass at 13:14. Will MacLeod added with his seventh of the game off a Braedon Saris pass 0:28 seconds later.
The combination of Osborne and MacLeod struck again for another pair just 0:11 seconds apart to put the Merchants back in the drivers seat with just 4:22 remaining.
Final score, Brooklin 19 Collingwood 12.
