Hamilton Takes Game Two In Dramatic Fashion
The Six Nations Rivermen (0-2) visited the Hamilton Bengals (2-0) in Ontario Series Lacrosse playoff action at the Dave Andreychuk Arena in Hamilton, Ontario.
The goaltending match-up had Tye Belanger in net for the Rivermen facing Aden Walsh in net for the Bengals.
A defensive struggle saw Hamilton go up in the series 2-1, with a dramatic 9-8 overtime victory over the Six Nations Rivermen Sunday afternoon.
After two periods, it looked like the Bengals had the game in hand however, the Rivermen kept pushing. In the dying moments, down by two goals, Greg Elijah-Brown facilitated an Anahalihs Doxtator goal with 0:40 seconds left, followed by a buzzer beater of his own to send the game to overtime.
Carson Moyer gave Hamilton the victory quickly into OT with an unassisted tally 0:35 seconds in, but it was a heck of an effort from both sides. Hamilton eeks out the narrow 9-8 victory.
To The Game:
David Anderson opened the scoring for the Rivermen with a blast off a Anahalihs Doxtator pass at 3:03, but Tye Argent answered quickly for Hamilton with a low to low shot off a Carson Moyer pass at 4:28.
Shane Halliwell gave the Bengals their first lead of the day with a laser that found the far corner off a Neil McInroy pass at 14:06, followed by Carson Moyer with a quick stick off a Zach Sunderland pass at 18:38.
After one period, Hamilton 3 Six Nations 1.
Second Period:
Carson Moyer increased the Bengals lead converting a Jaden Patterson pass at 3:57, but Anahalihs Doxtator kept Six Nations close with a low to high blast off a Ross Hill pass at 7:18.
Thunder Hill brought the Rivermen within one with a howitzer to the shortside off a Jacob Crans pass at 9:34.
Jaden Patterson replied for Hamilton with a shot from in close off a Tye Argent pass at 11:54, followed by Nick D'amico adding an unassisted shorthanded tally at 17:21.
After two periods, Hamilton 6 Six Nations 3.
Third Period:
Jacob Crans got Six Nations rolling early in the period with a shot that found the shortside at 3:54, followed by Anahalihs Doxtator again bringing the Rivermen within one goal with a laser to the corner off a Thunder Hill pass at 9:45.
Zach Sunderland again gave Hamilton a bit of breathing room with a sidearm snipe off a Tye Argent pass at 10:25, but Danton Miller kept Six Nations on the doorstep with a beautiful in-close goal off a Ross Hill pass at 11:56.
Zach Sunderland scored on the power-play off a Jaden Patterson pass at 18:59 to give Hamilton a two goal lead, however, a dramatic finish was about to take us all by storm.
Anahalihs Doxtator scored at 19:20 off a Greg Elijah-Brown pass, followed by Elijah-Brown himself, with the extra attacker on the floor, scoring with just 0:01 second left to send the game to overtime.
After regulation, Hamilton 8 Six Nations 8.
Overtime:
Just 0:35 seconds into the extra period, Carson Moyer, on a great individual effort, ended it with a shot that beat Tye Belanger to the glove side.
Final score, Hamilton 9 Six Nations 8.
