Bengals Stun Rivermen In Hard Fought Victory


The Six Nations Rivermen (7-3) visited the Hamilton Bengals (6-4) in Ontario Series Lacrosse action at the Dave Andreychuk Arena in Hamilton, Ontario. 

The goaltending match-up had Elan Henhawk in net for the Rivermen facing Andrew Kidd in net for the Bengals 

Led by Gareth Haigh (3g,0a) and Dawson Brown (2g,2a), the Hamilton Bengals stunned the Six Nations Rivermen 12-10.  Tied midway through the second period, a three goal run put the Bengals in control.  The Rivermen fought back with a pair before the intermission, but with the help of their special teams, Hamilton was able to keep the lead.to the end.

Jordan Goddard (2g,0a) led a strong charge by Six Nations in the third, but Andrew Kidd was sensational in the Bengals net, being able to preserve the win.

To The Game:

Trevor McDonald of Hamilton opened the scoring early in the period with a laser off a Dawson Brown pass at 0:37seconds, followed by Brown himself finishing a Zach Sunderland lead pass in transition at 1:08.

Six Nations came back when Marcus Elvin found the back of the net off a Blake McDonald pass at 2:18, followed by Zach Herreweyers with an in close snipe off a loose ball at 4:31.

Hamilton answered with Alec Tamas converting a Dawson Brown feed at 7:31, followed by Gareth Haigh with a late goal unassisted at 19:49.

After one period, Hamilton 4 Six Nations 2.
Second Period:

Quick goals from Tyson Bomberry and Ross Hill had the game tied at 1:38 of the second period, but Jaden Patterson gave the Bengals the lead once again with an low to.low shot off a Nick D'amico feed at 11:13.

Zach Herreweyers tied the game once more with an in close goal at 12:21, but a three goal Hamilton run changed the tone of the game.

Ryan Haigh scored in transition for Hamilton unassisted off a broken play at 12:28, followed by Tye Argent converting a Zach Sunderland feed from in close at 14:17.  Sunderland then added one of his own on the power-play off a Tye Argent cross crease pass at 14:49.

The Rivermen made it close nearing the end of the period.   Ross Hill blasted a Zach Herreweyers feed from the outside at 17:00, followed by Thunder Hill also converting a Zach Herreweyers pass at 18:01.

After two periods, Hamilton 8 Six Nations 7.

Third Period:

Gareth Haigh opened the third period scoring on the power-play from the top of the crease off a Tye Argent pass at 2:02, but Zach Herreweyers brought the game within one with a low to low shot unassisted at 13:14.

Dawson Brown extended the Bengals lead shorthanded with a nice move in front unassisted at 13:53, but on the same power-play Jordan Goddard answered for Six Nations with a blast to the top corner off a Thunder Hill pass at 15:02.

Shane Halliwell and Gareth Haigh added insurance markers late in the game, but the Rivermen still made it interesting with Jordan Goddard potting a late goal for the Rivermen off a Wake:Riat Bowhunter pass at 18:52.

Final score, Hamilton 12 Six Nations 10.
