Bengals Play Tough But Rivermen Persevere


The Hamilton Bengals (6-5) visited the Six Nations Rivermen (9-3) in Ontario Series Lacrosse action at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in Haggersville, Ontario. 

The goaltending match-up had Aden Walsh in net for the Bengals facing Tye Belanger in net for the Rivermen.

While the game went back and forth all day, the Rivermen were able to get out to a lead, and hold it for most of the day.  Led by Chris Courtney (2g,0a), David Anderson (2g,2a), and Greg Elijah-Brown (2g,0a), Six Nations was able to hold off a tough Bengals team.  Hamilton was led by Carson Moyer (3g,0a), and Gareth Haigh (2g,1a), with Aden Walsh being steady in net.  Six Nations wins 11-9.

Special teams played a big role in the result with Six Nations scoring three power-play goals.  Hamilton added one power-play goal, but also two shorthanded goals. 

To The Game:

The Six Nations Rivermen jumped out to a lead when Chris Courtney fired a sidearm snipe to the corner off a Ty Logan pass at 8:14, followed by David Anderson converting a Thunder Hill pass from in close at 12:52.

Hamilton got on the board when Carson Moyer was able to beat Tye Belanger stickside off a Tye Argent pass at 18:10.

After one period, Six Nations 2 Hamilton 1.

Second Period:

Hamilton got off to a good start with two quick goals.  Gareth Haigh scored on a great individual effort unassisted at 0:48 seconds, followed by Andrew Hoarsely with a shot from the side of the net off a loose ball at 4:23.

The Rivermen fought back with Chris Courtney's second of the game off a Zach Herreweyers pass at 5:45 to tie the game, followed by Thunder Hill with a low to high laser to the corner off a Danton Miller pass on the power-play at 10:10 to regain the lead.

Tye Argent tied the game once again with a blast off a Jaden Patterson pass at 10:44, but David Anderson answered with an outside shot of his own off a Zach Herreweyers feed on the power-play at 14:44.

Jaden Patterson converted a Trevor McDonald pass from in close at 15:35, but again the Rivermen answered with Zach Herreweyers firing a David Anderson pass at 16:05.

Danton Miller then increased the Six Nations lead to two with a bounced shot that beat Aden Walsh at 18:19.

After two periods, Six Nations 7 Hamilton 5.

Third Period:

Jordan Goddard gave the Rivermen a three goal lead on the power-play to open the third period scoring at 3:09, but was answered by Gareth Haigh with a low to low laser off a Jaden Patterson pass 0:21 seconds later.

Greg Elijah-Brown scored on the power-play off a Zach Herreweyers pass at 5:31, but a shorthanded goal from Dawson Brown kept it at a two goal deficit at 6:54.

Anahalihs Doxtator converted a Danton Miller feed at 13:14, but Carson Moyer kept the Bengals close with an unassisted shorthanded beauty at 17:39.

Greg Elijah-Brown looked to put the game out of reach with a blast off a Herreweyers feed at 18:32, but Carson Moyer added one more for Hamilton off a Gareth Haigh feed at 19:47.

Final score, Six Nations 11 Hamilton 9.
