A Strong Second Period Leads Bengals To Victory


The Six Nations Rivermen (12-4) visited the Hamilton Bengals (10-6) in Ontario Series Lacrosse action Sunday evening at the Dave Andreychuk Arena in Hamilton, Ontario. 

The goaltending match-up had Tye Belanger in net for the Rivermen facing Aden Walsh in net for Hamilton. 

A game in which Hamilton put together a strong second period leading them to victory.  Led by Gareth Haigh (3g,4a), Tye Argent (3g,1a), Shane Halliwell (2g,2a), and Neil McInroy (2g,0a), the Bengals scored seven times to lead 9-8 after two. 

The third period was a more defensive struggle with only three goals scored in the frame.  Aden Walsh was outstanding in net, preserving the slim lead for the Hamilton victory.  The Bengals came away with the 11-9 victory.

To The Game:

Tye Argent got the scoring going with a pair of goals for the Bengals.   The first was a power-play marker off a Jaden Patterson pass at 8:16, followed by an outside shot that found the corner at 10:31.

The Rivermen stormed back with four unanswered goals.   Anahalihs Doxtator converted a Ross Hill pass at 11:46, followed by a laser from Greg Elijah-Brown off a Thunder Hill feed at 16:03.

Hill himself got involved in the scoring with an inside shot off a Chaz Hill pass at 17:27, followed by Kevin Owen-Hill in transition unassisted at 19:32.

After one period, Six Nations 4 Hamilton 2.

Second Period:

Hamilton scored a pair to get things rolling in the second.  Shane Halliwell fired a laser to the corner off a Nick D'amico pass at 0:43 seconds, followed by Gareth Haigh with a bounced shot off a Dawson Brown pass shorthanded at 2:00.

Thunder Hill had the Rivermen regain the lead with a low to low laser off a David Anderson pass at 2:30 on the power-play, but Gareth Haigh replied for Hamilton with a blast off a Shane Halliwell pass at 3:25.

Thunder Hill again gave Six Nations the lead off a Wataheh Martin pass at 10:59, but Tye Argent answered with a sidearm snipe to the corner off a Gareth Haigh pass at 11:11.

Shane Halliwell gave Hamilton the lead with a blast off a Trevor McDonald pass at 13:08, followed by Andrew Hoarsely in transition off a broken play unassisted at 15:26.

Six Nations replaced Tye Belanger in net with Elan Henhawk. 

The Rivermen stormed back again with a pair of goals 0:33 seconds apart.  David Anderson hit the top corner off a Ty Logan pass at 18:51, followed by Anahalihs Doxtator tying the game off a Travis Staats pass at 19:24.

Neil McInroy ended the scoring in this wild period with a low to low shot off a Gareth Haigh pass at 19:49.

After two periods, Hamilton 9 Six Nations 8.

Third Period:

Hamilton increased their lead with Gareth Haigh scoring his third of the game off a Tye Argent pass at 1:44, but David Anderson kept the Rivermen within one with a blast off a Thunder Hill pass at 2:37.

The action went end to end the rest of the period with both Aden Walsh and Elan Henhawk coming up with huge saves throughout the frame. 

Neil McInroy sealed the deal with an empty net goal unassisted at 19:49 for the Bengals.

Final score, Hamilton 11 Six Nations 9.
